In today's day and age, lots of people don't have time to go to social events or other gatherings to meet dates. That's how online dating sites has gotten so popular and you really can find quality people on there. But it also comes with caveats that you need to watch for and it can be time consuming.

First this is that you need to be careful who you meet, what you say and how you make plans. If you're a girl, suggest to meet with someone in a public place and do not follow the person somewhere obscure after your initial meeting. If he were to propose that, just find an excuse. Guys, please take note. If you want your date to do well, don't suggest strange activities or places. A coffee or restaurant is plenty to meet your first date.

When you correspond with the person online, don't give out your last name, address and other personally identifiable information. While many people do mean great partners online, there are also spammers and crooks who are pretending to be an interesting date, but all they want is for you to wire money. I know of a story like that and believe it or not, it's easier to fall for it than you think. So be very careful. If someone is too good to be true, they probably are. If someone seems too complicated, they probably are. It's time to move on to the next candidate.

Don't waste time on potential partners who only seem a 'maybe' to you. While it may feel nice to keep all your options open, you will just be wasting everyone's time. Skip the ego game and just really pursue those that really appeal to you.

On the other hand, this doesn't mean to be overly picky either. I believe that in today's society people have become too self-focused and demanding, without regard to realities of everyday life and the fact that no one is perfect. So, it' important to keep an open mind. There is a fine line between being open for someone slightly different or rejecting someone who's just too different or has other major shortcomings.

Follow your gut and your feelings. Focus on the picture of the person and feel their energy. Do they feel light, positive and friendly? Or are they stiff, cold and calculating? Once you start paying attention to this, you will get trained to sift through profiles quickly. Even if their profile looks perfect, the person energy often says more about them than any words.

Treat everyone with respect. Everyone else (aside from crooks and spammers ) is in the same boat as you. Even if you're not a good match, be courteous and respectful. Online dating can be a sensitive matter to many people because you can get rejected really quickly. So be gentle, no matter what!
