I'm in desperate need of a career change. What does one look for when you only have a GED and a solid customer service background?

Sales comes to me when you're talking about customer service. If you have a knack for dealing with people, you could do well in sales. Go find a product that you like and see if you can get a sales job in it. Good luck!

I agree, sales sounds like a decent fit - but not everyone is cut out for sales. I'm certainly not, I hate that sort of thing. Alternatively, you might consider getting a job with a marketing/advertising company. Account Service roles allow you to talk with clients but not in a salesy way.
